Gorges du Verdon

The Grand Canyon of Provence

From£POA

  • nights

Overview

Holiday Highlights

  • Descend into the deepest gorge in France, the Gorge du Verdon, via the famous Martel Trail.
  • Walk atop ridges and experience panoramic provincial views.
  • Each evening, relax in the hotel courtyard with a glass of wine.
  • Enjoy the knowledge and expertise of a Local Guide as well as your Ramblers Walking Leader.
  • Enjoy walks that follow paths through rural towns and countryside.

The locals claim that after God had finished the creation, he took the best bits of the world and made his own personal paradise. He called it Provence. Some may dispute this story but there is no denying the Gorge du Verdon, Europe’s deepest river canyon and one of its greatest natural wonders, is just as impressive as its big cousin in Arizona, albeit on a smaller scale. Our programme allows us to walk the best section of the canyon and sample some excellent Provençal walking and hospitality.

Based in the small town of La Palud sur Verdon, we'll enjoy a great selection of provincial walks. Perhaps the most awe-inspiring is the section of the gorge from Martel to Point Sublime following the riverbed itself. It is worth noting that there are ladders to tackle on this route but not to worry, we have a local guide and our leader helping us along. We head out into the surrounding area as far as Moustiers St Marie, to the west and Castellane to the east.
